Rachel Hamel's work explores a longing for home, delving into the fictions and nostalgia that surround memories of place. Her work draws on her childhood in rural Wisconsin as well as her experience of living in Dubai, and travelling throughout the Middle East. She has been influenced by the relationship between vast and intimate spaces, and between being settled and expatriated. Rachel has BFA from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland where she is pursuing an MFA in painting at Maryland Institute College of Art.
